Founded in 2003, WBS is built on decades of experience as the leading UK and European supply chain specialist to the print and publishing industry, which has seen us develop and optimise processes and solutions to suit the demands and fast-moving pace of the biggest printers, publishers, and distributors in the sector.

Milestones

  1. WBS formed with 5 full time staff and initial book consolidation and transport services to Eastern Europe, France, and Italy, plus link services from the USA

  2. First dedicated 10,000 square feet warehouse and office location in Essex

  3. Ahead of the EU expansion in May 2004 longstanding logistics links into Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic States are formed

  4. Purchase stake in French logistics partner Groupex

  5. Move to Wickford Essex, premises, initially occupying 20,000 square feet of warehouse and office space.

  6. WBS fleet is formed

  7. Formation of Europaische Buch Logistik GmbH (EBL) joint venture with German logistics partner to facilitate export delivery of German publisher orders

  8. Launch of book consolidation services to customers in Turkey

  9. Formation of WBS Logistic in St Petersburg to facilitate fast growing book export services into the region

  10. Launch of in-house developed book consolidation and warehouse control software, utilising the latest barcode and scanning technology.

  11. Daily consolidation of express parcel services into Germany and other European countries commences

  12. Launch of dedicated USA - UK services

  13. First Amazon contract win carrying books from the USA to multiple Amazon fulfilment centres in France, Germany, and the UK.

  14. Launch of express services to Scandinavia

  15. Incorporation of EDI consignment data from publishers and book distributors into WBS operations software increasing transparency and accuracy of consignment data

  16. Acquisition Express Book Freight in the USA to further develop air and sea link services of USA books and media product to the UK

  17. Amazon contract expanded to include books and material from UK publishers and suppliers.

  18. Expansion of the Wickford location to 40,000 square feet

  19. Amazon contract grows to new fulfilment centre destinations in Poland

  20. Amazon contract grows to new fulfilment centre destinations in Czech Republic.

  21. Recruitment and resourcing of a dedicated in-house customs operations department and update of WBS software ahead of Brexit
    Accreditation as ETSF facility

  22. Development of fully resourced book fulfilment department, commencing operations for the world famous publisher TSO (The Stationery Office)

  23. Growth of warehouse facilities to 67000 square feet with the addition of more warehouse buildings.

  24. Acquisition of Swedish logistics partner WBS Nordic to secure and further develop business throughout Scandinavia
