WBS Statement on EUDR

WBS acknowledges the recent European Parliament vote concerning the proposed removal of Chapter 49 printed products from the scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). While this development is encouraging, we share the view expressed by Lisa Faratro, Director of Environment and Sustainability at CPI Group, who has urged continued caution until the legislative process is fully concluded.

As Lisa noted in her recent statement, the current public narrative suggesting that EUDR has been “delayed” or that books have been definitively “removed” from the legislation is not factually correct. The regulation remains under negotiation, and a further vote next month will be required to ratify any changes. Until a formal agreement is reached within the trilogue, the legal position remains unchanged: if no agreement is finalised in time, EUDR will apply from 30 December, and all products currently in scope- including printed books – would be subject to its requirements.

At WBS, we echo Lisa’s call for clarity and realism. Until there is legal certainty, we must continue preparing for compliance with the regulation as it currently stands.
