Severe Flooding impacts Valencia and Andalusia

Published in Uncategorized 6 November 2024

Severe flooding in Valencia and Andalusia has caused widespread devastation, impacting thousands of residents and paralyzing transport and logistics operations. Damaged infrastructure has resulted in road closures, rail delays, and port disruptions, severely affecting both supply chains and daily life across the region.

The flooding that began late last week has caused widespread disruption across Valencia and Andalusia, affecting thousands of residents and forcing many to evacuate as water levels continue to rise.

Many streets and neighbourhoods remain submerged, hampering emergency response efforts and complicating access to affected areas. The severe weather has also had a major impact on transport and logistics operations. Public transportation systems, including rail and bus services, have experienced significant delays and cancellations, leaving commuters stranded. Numerous rail lines, particularly those connecting Valencia, Madrid, and Barcelona have sustained severe damage to tracks and overhead lines.

Several major highways, including the A-7 and A-3, have been closed due to damage to the roads and collapsed bridges severely disrupting the flow of goods and business operations. Long-distance traffic along the Mediterranean corridor has been particularly impacted, complicating access to the Port of Valencia. At the Port of Valencia, flooding and infrastructure damage have led to delays in container loading and unloading, further impacting expected delivery times.

Over 22,000 hauliers across Spain have been affected by road closures and blockades, particularly along the Mediterranean route and the Valencia-Madrid corridor. To manage the situation, Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic (GDT) has implemented a traffic management directive effective November 4, including a ban on vehicles exceeding 7,500 kg (both loaded and empty), with limited exceptions.

WBS Logistics extends our heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the flooding.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
